The geology of Taroko can be regarded as the epitome of the geological region on the east side of the Central Mountain Range. Among them, the marble rock is the oldest rock formation known to be exposed on the surface of Taiwan, and its formation date can be traced back to 250 million years ago. Taiwan Island is constantly uplifted due to crustal movement, and the sharp-edged Liwu River is constantly eroding downwards, resulting in rapid river erosion.
